Hi there. I hope you are home, safe, and warm. I was in town earlier doing some MT History lesson plans with Mrs. Jeziorski and it was sure getting bad. HUGE drifts by my car when I left. Yikes! Be safe out there! Those of you that are my age, this is the winters I remember having as a kid. Snow, snow, snow. As a kid...loved it! As a mom, not so much! :0)
Academically this week we will be continuing on with the same objectives as last week. We will also be doing some more fun projects dealing with snowology. Last Friday, we split the class in two and met up with Mrs. Auch's class to do two hands on learning labs. In Mrs. Auch's room, the kids did a lesson on the two types of feathers. In my class, the kids did a snowology scavenger hunt. They had to discover all sorts of fascinating facts about snow. Ask your child which state is home of the largest snowflake, registering in at 15 inches in diameter. Holy Buckets! Write the state they say in the planner for $10 on Monday. (Think home sweet home people!)
In C.C. Meeting this week, we will be looking at the concept of handshaking. This is a life long skill, and it is so important that kids learn it at an early age so they have an advantage over others. The handshake is the first impression in the business world. So, we will take a look at the dos and don'ts of this concept through some youtubes and by practicing all week. One of our classroom jobs is a guest greeter. I have noticed that when kids go to greet an incoming guest in our classroom, they drop their eyes rather than holding strong. Hopefully, this week will help build that confidence level.
A HUGE thank you to Trevor's Grandma for coming in and helping with our accelerated math lesson last Friday. What a HUGE difference she made. Kids were able to get more time with me and with their lessons. So many are doing so great! This is an independent math program and it challenges kids on their level. Thanks again for your help Mrs. Lohof, and I will see you next week! Remember...we are always in need of more help during this time. We do it every Friday from 10-10:30.
For morning work on Friday, I passed out an amazing project for the kids to do. Before the break, we did some graphing on a coordinate plane that made a holiday picture at the end. McLean then took it upon himself to create his own, and it wasn't something simple. He did an entire page of coordinates to graph. All kids, except Liam and McLean, brought this home to finish up this weekend for homework. Take a look at is. WOW! This kid has one amazing mind! Well done McLean! Be proud!
Some kids also brought home their Alaska HR sheet for homework this weekend. Many finished and turned it in already.
I am still missing some MT History notebooks from Riley, Coewyn, Tyler, Emily, and one page from Ty. They were told to bring them home and finish them up this weekend. Hopefully they did. The quarter ends soon, and they need to get those in as it is 5 grades in the gradebook.
Trevor was our star of the week this week. He brought in his Cowboy jersey, his baseball, and many pictures of his trip in Egypt. It was a very interesting presentation. He ended his time by flying his chopper car. Quite the gadget. Man, we never had toys like that when I was a kid! Thanks for sharing with us Trevor!
It was Fallen Rock Friday last week. It was fun to see all the shirts being worn. I emailled them to Bill Merical today. I know it will make him smile. Check his website to see if we make it on his page. :0) You can also still order anytime if you missed out on the chance to order with the class. Pretty fun stuff!
Well, that about covers it for this Saturday. Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Erickson
