“Be yourself — not your idea of what you think somebody else’s idea of yourself should be.” Henry David Thoreau

Hello there. Sorry for the late post. Conferences were back to back, and this is the first chance I have had to get it done. (That kind of sounds like an excuse now doesn't it kids???) My solution, is to blog now instead.

Today was a very productive day for a half day. We started double digit by double digit multiplication today. That was a hoot. Not the math so much, as watching the lightbulbs go on. The first rule was to NOT panic. This is a tough concept and remembering to annex that zero is the hardest part. What does that mean???? Ask your child to tell you. They should explain that it is when you add the zero in the second row when multiplying through the second time. If they do, write ANNEX in the planner for $20. We will practice more this week.

If your child knew that they were going to be gone on Friday, we took the spelling test today at recess.

It was so great to talk with so many of you today. Conferences are challenging for me because I don't have a lot to share due to the communication level we already have. I take great pride in communicating my concerns and celebrations with you on a consistent basis. Therefore, I rarely have issues to discuss. However, it is so wonderful to just sit with you face to face and share information about your most precious gifts! I look forward to the ones tomorrow as well.

Homework tonight is DynaMath. Kids need to complete the back page BY THEMSELVES. No help from home please. They also need to do a half page check in with me in their RLJ journals. They can write about anything they want to me. Half a page!!!! Many students also needed to finish up their handwriting page from our morning work this morning. 2 sessions of xtramath is also recommended each night.

Some of you have asked about reading at night. While I don't require it for homework, my thoughts on it are positive. I LOVE for kids to read what THEY want to read. We don't often have time in class for free choice reading, so reading for enjoyment is encouraged at home. At this age, 30-40 minutes is recommended by the research. I do not do AR testing.

Well, that about sums up the day. Have a wonderful night.
