Whether you believe you can or can't...you are correct. Henry Ford

Hi there. What a weird weather day. We went from snow showers this morning to no coats at recess. Gotta love Montana weather.

Today we started multiplication with two digits by one digit. For example, we would do 63 x 9. Have kids explain how to do this for you. They should say first you would do 9 x 3 and get 27. You would record the 7 in the ones place and regroup the 2 on top of the 6. Second you would do 9 x 6 and get 54. Then add the regrouped 2 and get 56. Therefore, finally giving you the PRODUCT of 567. Make sure they say the word product. If they can do this, write 567 in the planner.

In language, we started action verbs. We also did our types of sentences in spelling class. Both should have been completed in class, but some did not finish up and are bringing it home.

In reading, we talked about how you could make oil out of algae! Say what???? Yep, algae is a HUGE alternative resource now being explored. Algae is a renewable resource and contains oil in it (up to 50%). Squeezing it gets the oil out. Is is our future????? Weird!

In Regional SS, we are learning about the 5 main groups of people found in the US in the past. Kids were each assigned to a group. They had to discover how or why the group immigrated to the US and at least 5 things they brought to America from their culture that we use today. All information was found in their Regional SS books. Tomorrow they will present their information to the rest of the class using any method they choose. My rules were that they could not use a script and/or technology. They could sing it, rap it, do a news broadcast, do a skit, or so on. The goal here is to learn from one another and also to work in a cooperate group. Before starting, we discussed how I would know if they worked  cooperatively. We all agreed that the assignment would be done and smooth. Can't argue with that logic.

Tomorrow, Tuesday folders come home. Report cards will be in there as well. There is a lot of information coming home from our field trip to the weather service. There is also a permission slip for our upcoming fitness club with Mr. Pertuit. He did this at my last school. It is AMAZING!!! Kids came out sweaty and tired. It is like a boot camp for kids but sooooooooo fun. Music is on and kids are working out. It runs like a well oiled machine. It will be after school on Tuesdays and Fridays in the gym. It is so fun, they won't even know they are working out. :0) Kids MUST have a returned permission slip to participate. It starts on Nov. 12th.

Tomorrow's Conferences:
7:30 am-Taylor
7:45 am-Coewyn

Homework tonight is DynaMath pages 8-9 and to study for spelling. Since it is a new quarter, alternative lists have started over. Kids that aced the Halloween test were offered the alternative list. Those that get a 100 this week will be offered it next week. Everyone is capable of this! BELIEVE! (And studying helps!) Kids also need to do 2 sessions of xtramath on the computer if able to. They also need to make flashcards and have you flash them their 12s from 12 x 0 all the way to 12 x 12.

Have a great night. Tennis shoes tomorrow. Half days on Wed-Fri this week (noon dismissals).
