Hello there. I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weekend we are having. What a perfect day for the parade. It was fun to see so many kids having fun. I was bummed to discover my camera was left at home! :0(
Monday is St. Patrick's Day. We will be doing some fun, academic activities. I encouraged kids to show their Irish spirit by wearing the color green. Those that make an effort on this will earn $50.
A BIG thank you to Jen and her mom for making a leprechaun trap. I am hoping we don't walk into any mischief on Monday. In the past, I have been hit pretty hard. So, let's all hope that Jen's fake gold and sticky tape trap worked! A big thank you also to Jen's mom for my fun knitted shamrock. Love it!
Haylee was our star of the week last week. You can sure tell that she spends a lot of time crafting and doing things with art. She brought a fun scrapbook that she has put together since kindergarten. She also shared some drawings she had done while at a camp this summer past summer. It was fun learning even more about this special young lady. Thanks for sharing Haylee.
Friday's Accelerated Math went sooooo well. We had three amazing volunteers helping out. A BIG thank you to Trevor's grandma, Haylee's grandma, and Max's mom. Having so many adults on hand allowed me to spend some one on one time with some kids that needed higher level help. One problem had me stumped for awhile. So much so, that I had to go watch a youtube video to figure it out. It is funny how when you don't use a skill for a long time (or teach one), how easy it is to forget how to do it. Thank goodness for internet. Nicolas and I had fun doing some Abe Lincoln learning (learning without a teacher and having to find the way on our own). Thanks again ladies!
Next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we have our MONTCas Science test. Only 4th graders take it. Mrs. Auch has prepared the kids well. They will do great! All we ask is that they do their very best and take their time. We will take it in the afternoon after lunch. Due to this, we will not have spelling this week. We will also not have homework. That way, kids can enjoy some outdoor time and get to bed early and stress free. Eating a protein breakfast and having some kind of protein in their lunch has research to prove that it helps kids do better on tests. Students may also chew gum while testing. They will need to bring in their own. One pack should be more than enough for the entire testing week. Tests should take about an hour or hour and a half each day. Please try to have kids at schools on this day. It is not in their best interest to do make up testing. They don't get to do it in their natural environment or with me. They are pulled to do it in a different location, thus also taking away more learning time. It is just easier to get them done in class and move forward together. Thanks for your support on this issue.
In math this week, we will finish up our geometry unit. We will work on congruent, similar, and figures with symmetry. We will find missing angles in quadrilaterals and triangles. We will also look at circle parts and finding diameters and radius measurements.
In reading, we will continue on with Nature's Neighborhoods. Inquiry projects will be discussed later this week.
The Arrowhead Science fair due date is coming up. Please make sure all experiments are done completely soon.
S.S.-We will begin to look at our next US region. It only has four states. So, our states and capital's test will be a lot easier this time. We will also begin our Lewis and Clark unit in Montana History.
Langauge-We will review all parts of speech by doing Daily Oral Language, Mountain language, and Drops in a bucket. We will also practice combining sentences using conjunctions and commas when needed.
I leave you with some pictures of our newest family members. So cute! Tis the season for baby animals on the farm! I will bring a few in this week to share. Not the ducks though. They are non stop quackers! :0)
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Erickson
