Lots done today!
New spelling words are up on the blog. Test will be THURSDAY morning. Alternates tested today. They will get their test back tomorrow to study if need be.
Homework tonight is an RLJ entry and The Wonderful Walrus reading comprehension. Both are due tomorrow morning.
Kids will have a sub tomorrow afternoon. I will blog again on Tuesday night.
Tennis shoes are needed for gym tomorrow. There is two weeks left of Fitness Club. I would love to see some kids make some thank you cards for Mr. Pertuit for running this. It was completely volunteer time on his part. What a great gift to Arrowhead's children!
Star quilts are beginning to be complete. Here are a few samples of ones that are done. Awesome! I love how they are all so different! Pretty amazing what kids and American Indians can do with one single rhombus.
Tomorrow is TAX day! We talked about what this means in CC meeting today. Kids had NO idea that this was taken out of their paychecks each month! Oh to be a kid again. We also talked abut how taxation is not equal. People are placed in tax brackets due to what they make. Taxes are then figured on that (along with a million other factors that I didn't want to get into with 4th graders). So….tomorrow they too will feel the pain of paying taxes. We will all count our fake money. Then we will find 10% of that total and pay that amount. They will see the importance of investing money to avoid taxation and that the more you make the more you pay. :0) Ouch in the pocket book.
I also shared with kiddos that they will have their last reward coupon buy in not this Friday, but next. The rest of their money will be used to buy into their two last field trips. It will be a $500 buy in for Pompey's Pillar and a $500 buy into the ranch. Both places require kids that can be trusted and that will tune in to my voice and follow directions. There has been wildlife at Pompey's before, including snakes. They have to listen and follow directions of the leaders when these things arise. At the ranch, there is a ton of animals. Goofing around and being loud are not an option. Animals get spooked and that is when problems can arise. Therefore, those that lose money in class for this behavior often probably won't be able to buy in. Those that do, will have NO problem buying in. Many would be able to buy in today if I let them. We talked about how they need to put aside some money for this BEFORE they spend it on coupons. Of course, the choice is always theirs and with choices comes consequences. Ask your child how much money they have in their wallet right now. Write down the amount they say in the planner for $10. If it is low, you may want to ask them why and how they can build it up. There are so many ways kids can make money every day/week.
Well, I think that about covers it. Have a fantastic evening! :0)
