Hi there. A much better day was had by all today. We were calm, quiet, and very productive all day. At CC meeting today, we had quite the heart to heart talk. We rediscussed the 4th grade EQ expectations. Then we went around to each student and identified strengths and areas that need improvements this week. Kids then placed themselves in a category: positive role model, sometimes having 4th grade EQ, or needing to improve their EQ. Finally, the class as a whole decided on a dollar amount for fines. They decided that the standard fine move up from $20 to $50. They also decided that the people that needed to really improve should have a steeper fine to motivate them to do the right thing. Three students were on this same list last week. So students made the connection that for these three kiddos the $20 fine wasn't cutting it. So, they went up to $150 for them. Again, this was class decided. I will tell you this, the three on this list sure had a fantastic day today after losing their first $150. That is a big chunk of change. However, that is real life. After so many chances of doing the same thing over and over again, doesn't are fines increase over time? Hard lesson for all, including me for having to be the one to issue them and follow through. No fun there either. Hopefully, we can just all get back to doing the right thing. Indoor recess hasn't helped. It is so hard to be cooped up all day. They really did do a much better job today. Hopefully we can go outside again tomorrow. :0) Please remind kids to dress for the weather. Those that come without hats, coats, gloves may not get to go outside if it is still really cold. Safety first here at Arrowhead.
Tonight's homework is to read for 30 minutes.
Tomorrow is fitness club and gym class. Kids need to wear their tennis shoes. We also have library, so remember those books would be great. Did you know we have ebooks now? Kids can bring in their nooks, kindles, or iPads and Mr. Casey can get them up and running.
Please send in read a thin envelopes tomorrow if they have pledges. Prizes will be awarded tomorrow. They can bring them any Friday in February to earn these.
We finally got back into Montana History today!!!! The kids sure did miss it. We will continue to do it daily now for a few weeks. Today, we took a look at what life was like for Montana's Natives before Europeans came over, the 1700s. Life was good and food was plentiful. What animal provided the most food, clothing, and tools for the Native people of Montana? Ask your child. Write it in the planner for $10 tomorrow.
A big thank you to Haylee's mom for volunteering her time to read with kids today while I did skill work in Lead 21. We appreciate you!!!!
Have a fantastic evening. Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Rumor has it there will be a birthday in the house!!!
